Into the Pit

clouds
behind faces
sway

and skies
appear from behind houses
mountains behind houses

face
what fades away
grey

appears in front of
what remains calm, chase
what was and

designation
makes a name on a body-claim,
nothing left but

a fading stain
a broken day
a smashed iron-plate

grains of sand
email
and propane tanks

space-feed their grace
to a
gorging placenta

formulated from
distance
the last appearance to excavate

a grey
remains in the
foreground—
traffic-jams

computer-chips
high-school diploma, you
name it

it’s whatever appears
precise
in the space

now,
check it off,
for its

one of an infinite
amount of number
descending

into
the pit of the
earth
